Helmets is armor for your head. These can be as simple as a basic hardened cloth cap or as complex as a full helmet with a visor. All helmets come with a socket allowing you to attach a rune stone.

2) Layer 2 Helmet: Cowl or Coif

Cowls or Coifs is an extra layer of protection for your head. Coifs may be worn on top of caps or under half helms and full helms. Coifs are maid of small, interlinked chains, and are attached to your cuirass at the back. Cowls on the other hand are made of cloth and are attached to your cape or cloak, but may be worn without them. Cowls are always worn on top of the helmet, no matter what type of helmet it is. You are unable to attach a rune stone to cowls or coifs.
