Axes are another weapon that started out as a tool. The original axes were first created for cutting wood. It just so happens that they were also great at cutting into foes. The first race to make use of the axe as a combat weapon was the very industrial dwarf. Others soon adopted the axe as both a tool and a weapon and eventually there were axes made specifically for combat.

Axes deal damage not because of their sharpness, but because of the wedge of the blade and the weight behind it. This allows the axe to chop instead of slash through its target. Cloth armor and wood shields are useless against an axe, therefore any target wearing solely cloth armor can have its PR ignored if you are wielding an axe, and if the target blocks with a wooded shield it is as if the target isn't blocking at all.

1) Basic Information

Type of Attack: Chopping

Weapon Proficiencies: Chopping, Axes, Pole Axes

Extra Info: If you have Level 1 or higher in Axes Proficiency (Pole Axes Proficiency if using a pole axe), you can cause Bleeding Out status effect if the target is not armored if you make a critical hit, reducing the target's hp by 1d10 round for 4 rounds or until bandaged. This effect applies to armored targets if you have level 3 or higher. You also have a 20% chance of causing the Dazed status effect. This is due to the blunt force nature of a heavy axe smashing into armor.

Chopping attacks decrease the target's armor faster, similar to piercing weapons, but being a wider blade with more weight behind the attack the target's DR% decreases by double per attack.

The flat edges and back of the axe head can be used as a bludgeoning weapon dealing 15% less damage.

Chopping attacks are extra effective against cloth armor and wood shields, so much so that such armor provides no protection (no DR%, no Defense) against axe attacks. Futhermore, if one crits with an axe, 10% of the damage goes to the target's HP regardless of the armor worn.

2.1) One Handed Axe Modifications

Here are modifications that you can apply to a weapon. These modifications can be done by any blacksmith. Each modification takes a slot, and you can only apply up to three per weapon.

Weapon Attack Parry Range Hit Chance Weight Durability Space Taken Other Information Cost
Bearded Blade 1d10 N/A 0 0 x 1.25 N/A 0

This increases the weight of the blade. The heavier weight caused by this causes potentially greater damage due to the extra weight behind the attack.

10.00
Glass Edged 1 + 1d12 N/A 0 0 0 decreased by 10% 0

This embeds glass into the edge of your blade. You can choose from Blue, Green, Red, and Teal glass.

  • Blue Glass: Increases damage by Runic Soul if used by water element or against fire element
  • Green Glass: Increases damage by Runic Soul if used by earth element or against air element
  • Red Glass: Increases damage by Runic Soul if used by fire element or against earth element
  • Teal Glass: Increases damage by Runic Soul if used by air element or against water element

The glass edge will break if rolling a double crit or rolling a mishap, increasing the damage for that attack by x 2, however once the edge is broke the weapon will do 20% less damage without the added damage from the glass edge.

15.00
Gold Edged x 1.5 if wielded by one who is of the fire element x 1.25 if wielded by one who is of the fire element 0 +5 if wielded by one who is of the fire element 0 N/A 0

This coats the edge of the blade in pure gold, which seems to resonate with those of the fire element. This increases the weapon's attack value by x 1.5, the weapon's parry value by x 1.25

10.00
Holy Symbol x 2 damage against spirits x 1.5 Parry against spirits 0 +5 against spirits 0 N/A 0

This causes your weapon to do double the damage it normally would do against a spirit, and increases its ability to parry a spirit's attack if the weapon can parry. Further more, spirits have a harder time evading it. Spirits still get their normal decrease in physical damage, but because the weapon can do more damage, more of it will affect the spirit.

10.00
Jade Stone Embedded x 1.5 versus those of water element N/A 0 +5 against those of water element 0.2 N/A 0
